Biography
Manuel "Mar" Araneta Roxas II (born May 13, 1957) is a Filipino politician who has served in the Cabinet of the Philippines as Secretary of the Interior and Local Government from 2012 to 2015. Previously he was Secretary of Trade and Industry from 2000 to 2003, a Senator from 2004 to 2010, and Secretary of Transportation and Communications from 2011 to 2012. He is the son of former Senator Gerry Roxas, and the grandson of former Philippine President Manuel Roxas and of industrialist J. Amado Araneta.

Mar's father, Gerardo Roxas, was a former Senator (1963 - 1972), and the only son of Manuel Roxas, the first President of the Third Philippine Republic, and Trinidad de Leon-Roxas.

And the song they chose, especially as a prayer, is close to my heart. I sing that song when I am angry at anyone I happen to be talking to; it really calms me. [Laughter]

We have been snookered by the tabloids once again. The sensationalist rags have relentlessly portrayed Mar Roxas as a goof, a man directing traffic in the rain or hauling bags of rice for the camera or doing a nose dive into the mud from a motorbike. A man totally out of the loop on the planning of a police operation in Mamasapano.
